Church Weekend

We have entitled the weekend "Risk Takers" and will be looking at some of the characters in the Bible who were Risk Takers.

Here is a report from Sara

A new and more entertaining version of Strictly Come Dancing – Why don’t you join us on Riskly Come Dancing

Four couples battled it out on Saturday 2nd October on stage, live at St Rhadagunds in St Lawrence a few miles from Ventnor and Shanklin, South East of the Isle of Wight at Peppard Springwater Church, church weekend.

Hosted by Dave (Bruce Forsyth) and Stella (Tess Daly) the superb contest started off at 7.45 pm with the introduction to the unprofessional couples. Talk about risky; with only minutes of practise, the judges were eager to watch the dances.

The judges were Megan Parker, Jack Bowman, Ben Shakeshaft and Sara Church, all with the experience of professional dancing and expecting more than just a twirl on the stage.

The first couple was Helen and Kenneth Craig, married for some time; they proved out of time and inconsistent for the judges. They did a ballroom dance which was graceful and elegant as well as presenting themselves in a ballroom gown and black suit of high-class, which added flow and beauty to the dance. Even though their performance was a bit poor they managed to score a good twenty seven points.

The second couple up was Andy and Anne Shakeshaft. Their interesting western and country dance proved a bit scruffy and boring for the judges and didn’t score as well as Helen and Kenneth’s dance. They scored twenty five points in all and only impressed the judges slightly, even though Andy tried to bribe them with delicious cookies. They were dressed in a white shirt and black trousers and a short stylish purple dress.

The third couple was Jason and Dawn Bowman. An outstanding, unique, comical and entertaining dance; although not entirely ballroom, it impressed the judges enough to give the couple a score of thirty seven and a half in total. The dance included Celtic dancing, ballroom dancing and even Michael Jackson to which Jason managed to knock a gold plate hanging on the wall with his hat throwing skills. The judges stated that more team work was needed and Dawn needed to be more involved, while Jack said ‘I am utterly speechless.’ They were clothed in a long-tailed black suit which later revealed a black sequin waistcoat and multicoloured sequin hat as well as a classy dress with a pink coloured cardigan.

The final and last couple was Steve and Sue Scrace. There dance was an absolute disaster as they pretended to be birds. This did not amuse the judges as they got given thirteen out of forty marks. It was positively said that it was unique but needed practise, a lot of improvement and no other couples should have been involved at the end as it was the couple’s dance. As one judge stated ‘other couples may get extra points for engagement in their dance routine.’ It was a disappointment for the audience but extremely entertaining. They were dressed in brown coloured clothes with white feathers pinned onto them as well as webbed felt feet. They even wore owl masks to match the theme of birds. It was well planned to amuse people.

So the final winners were Dawn and Jason who won the Riskly Come Dancing trophy and a box of Belgian chocolates which were awarded to them by the judges.

The show ended in a final Bruce style joke and the audience dispersed to congratulate the winners and have free refreshments.
